Late Michael Moncar laid to rest, actors pay tributes
The mortal remains of late veteran actor Michael Moncar who died on Friday, March 8, was laid to rest Saturday at the Osu Cemetery in Accra.The actor, who died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a surgery was conducted to remove a blood clot detected in his head, was laid to rest after an impressive funeral ceremony at his residence, Mahogany Close in Dansoman, Accra.
Before his interment, the remains of Michael Moncar was conveyed from the Medical School Mortuary of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, on Friday April 5, to his residence.
The body was then laid in state at the same venue on Saturday, April 6 for viewing after which a pre-burial service was held for him.
Several personalities from the creative arts fraternity paid humbling tributes to the actor, whom many described as a calm and friendly person.
Some of the personalities included, Fred Amugi, Kofi Adjorlolo, Vivian Achor, Seth Karikari (Koo Fori), Abeiku Sagoe, Dzifa Glikpoe and Augustine Abbey (Idikoko).
His friend, and veteran actor, Fred Amugi, whose tribute drove the gathering to tears recounted that: “Micky Mich, this is how I used to call you, and your response was “Awww mi nye mi [Awww my brother].”
Augustine Abbey, popularly known as Idikoko, speaking in an interview with Joy News after the funeral said: “We were so close, he never got angry, he was just a nice person, [and] very affable. With me especially, anytime we met, we will tease each other.”
Kofi Adjorlolo described Michael Moncar as “gentleman, apart from everything, not only a colleague, [he was] a very good friend.”
Kofi disclosed that it was after his death that he got to know that Michael Moncar was related to him.
“After his death, I realized that he was a family man, someone related to me. My family from Ada [is] Adjorlolo and according to the mother, his mother says her mother is Adjorlolo and I didn't even know so it was some few days after his death that I was told.”
Actor Seth Karikari, popularly known as Koo Ofori, who starred in the popular television series Efiewura with Michael Moncar, also said, “It is a very sad moment. For instance, myself when it happens like this, it takes some of us backwards but he is somebody who is going to be remembered.”
According to Koo Ofori, the late actor was “a cool guy, a very nice person it is rather unfortunate that such a thing should happen to a person like this. We only take consolation in the fact that we believe he is resting in the arms of the lord.”
Abeiku Sagoe was emphatic that Michael Moncar has “gone to heaven.”
He stressed that, “Mike never got angry, he never fought anybody and I cannot imagine that such a person will go to any place other than heaven so we are hopeful he will go and prepare the place for us to join him … [heaven] is a very boring place so he is going to put life there.”
